Timeless Danish Asmussen - Hamlet Design

 Asmussen - Hamlet Design

Asmussen - Hamlet Design is a wellknown design brand in Denmark most people know the iconic drop candlesticks that were a great hit in Denmark for a long time. The drop is the most iconic shape from Asmussen - Hamlet Design and both lampscandlesticksvases and candlesticks were produced in the elegant shape.

Besides the items based on the drop many different items in glass and metal were also produced. A classical look for Asmussen Design is the beautiful gold plating that adds the elegant and stylish expression. Beyond the gold look there is a series in polised tin, too.

Asmussen - Hamlet Design is not just about Danish design, but also Danish production, since the production was done in Denmark. Thus we are talking about true Danish craftmanship, when you have an item from Asmussen in your living room. The drop candlestick was produced by heating the brass element and then shaping it under high pressure into the base shape. Then the beautiful surface was made through metal spinning in a lathe. Finally the candlestick was gold plated to finish the look.

Because Asmussen - Hamlet Design no longer has a production, the candlesticks have become sought after and a number of them are very hard to get. This shows the popularity of the design.

Below you will find a number of the Asmussen items that we have available.

Learn to spot the difference between 1st and 2nd quality

I am often asked about the difference between 1st and 2nd quality of Royal Copenhagen and Bing & Grondahl. This has prompted me to write a bit about it. Basically it is about an evaluation of the porcelain made in the factory after production. The finished porcelain was lookes over to see if they live up to the quality demands of the factory. Those that were deemed 2nd quality, where then sold at a lower price than 1st quality. Today only dinner service is sold as 2nd quality in factory sales, but the improved technique for burning the porcelain means that all the yearly cllector's items are sold as 1st quality now. In the past a large part of the production could be of a quality that did not meet the quality demand, which made it necessary to sell it as 2nd quality. However one must remember that the evaluation was made by people, so the evaluation of the porcelain could vary a lot, meaning that there was great difference in when figurines and plates were ju...

Beautiful 2017 Easter eggs from Royal Copenhagen

The time has arrived, when Royal Copenhagen again issues its popular series of porcelain Easter eggs. The older years of the Easter eggs are hard to find and increase markedly in price as a collector's market has been established. Thus I recommend that you buy now, as the Easter eggs from last year, where sold out very quickly. Like in prior years the motifs are beautiful and delightful flowers, butterflies and birds. The style of the motifs are kept in the clear and pure style that brings the thoughts back to botanical and zoological encyclopedias. See all Royal Copenhagen Easter eggs 2017 here! Royal Copenhagen Easter eggs work well set alongside the flowers of spring. On the pictures above you see a setup together with the  Bing & Grondahl Easter plates  that with right in with their spring motifs. The shown plate is  Easter 1917 .
